Water Lillies on the Au Train River

Water Lilies on the Au Train River

Thursday, July 27th, shortly after 7 p.m. during a nasty thunderstorm, the modem in the PC that powers the DanaCam! webcam took an electrical hit.  It appears an electrical surge over the telephone line damaged the modem and it was no longer able to detect a dial tone.  The PC is quite old, still running Windows 95, and replacement hardware is difficult to find.

Amy called Alliance computer repair shop in Marquette and the owner just happened to have a couple of old internal ISA modems he said we could have for free.  He wasn't sure if they were still functional.  The first modem I installed in the PC dialed and connected on the very first attempt!  The DanaCam! is back in business and serving thousands of satisfied customers!

After such a grueling PC repair procedure, I took our son on a short trip down the Au Train River and in addition to this photo, we obtained several others as we navigated our way down the river.  A pair of Kingfishers accompanied us for a long time on our way back to Au Train Lake and we saw a turtle on a log basking in the sun.

We received an e-mail message this week inquiring about the 2006 Fontanet Bean Dinner Festival.  This year the Fontanet Bean Dinner will be held August 25, 26, and 27 at Holloway Grove in Fontanet, Indiana.  They'll be serving up 2,000 pounds of beans seasoned with 300 pounds of bacon!  In addition to free beans, there is live music, a flea market, carnival rides, and a Civil War re-enactment.

"For maybe a hundred thousand years or more, grownups have been waving tangles of string in their children's faces...  No wonder kids grow up crazy.  A cat's cradle is nothing but a bunch of X's between somebody's hands, and little kids look and look and look at all those X's. . ."

"And?"

"No damn cat, and no damn cradle."

Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (born November 11, 1922)
American writer famous for his imaginative satires.
The quote is from his novel Cat's Cradle (1963)
