the sweet noise that rings in my head

Years ago I wrote a story about how us
kids got the hell scared out of us - the
hell went back in later - by a ghostly caper my
grandmother had engineered.
The story was published in a local
alternative newspaper. One of the
other kids, who had since grown up and
gained an English degree, read it and said, "You
know, I've been meaning to write that story.
I just haven't had the time."
What he meant was: After finishing all the
crap he had to do each day,
after the wage machine had sucked away most of his good
energy, he didn't feel like sitting down at the keyboard to tap
out words that, once they appeared, likely
would not sound anything like the sweet noise that
rang in his head.
I knew about that.
