stay between the lines

---------------------

The biggest tree in Wisconsin, a cottonwood in Montello.

I was driving through Montello, Wisconsin recently and passed Wisconsin's biggest tree.  This magnificent cottonwood, 23.2 feet around the trunk, 138 feet high, and with an almost symmetrical crown spread of 132 feet, is the largest tree of any species growing in Wisconsin.

Some searches of the Internet reveal that Michigan's biggest tree is a black willow (Salix nigra) near Traverse City.  Next time I get down that way, I'll snap a picture.
