Do only that which is right
---------------------

A large crowd braved
subzero temperatures in downtown Marquette to watch the start of the
14th running of the U.P. 200 Sled Dog Championship. Due to
poor snow conditions in the southern Upper Peninsula, the race route
for 2003 was modified. This year, the 244 mile trail stretches
from Marquette to the small Alger County village of Grand Marais,
and then back again to Marquette. 29 teams started the U.P.
200. Everyone had a great time in spite of the cold
temperatures.
I also drove to
Chatham to watch the start of the Midnight Run, a 65 mile race from
Chatham to near the Bear Trap Inn in Van Meer. The Superior Central
Schools were serving food at the Rapid River Township Hall to raise
money for the Science Olympiad. Of course, I had to help out
by downing a hot dog, potato chips, and dill pickle.
