lard made a stunning comeback in the 1990s
---------------------

We have twelve guests
at the resort this week. They arrived last Saturday and today
enjoyed the largest new snowfall of the winter. Alger County
was under a winter storm watch yesterday as lake effect snow
blanketed the area coupled with 20 to 30 m.p.h. winds out of the
northwest. We spent most of today trying to stay on top of the
snow. M28 was closed all day between Munising and Marquette
and our guests were unable to travel the ten miles from
Au Train to the Kewadin Casino in Christmas. This bunch of
snowmobilers is the largest group we have hosted. We now know
that we can host at least five trucks, four large snowmobile
trailers, and twelve sleds!

COLONNATA, Italy
The plump American tourist warily put the
sliver of pinkish lard in her mouth, made little smacking sounds, smiled and
said it was really delicious.
"But do you have a lean version?" she asked.
"Lean? But
it's lard. It only comes fat," answered
Renata Ricci, proprietor of Larderia il Poggio high in this Tuscan mountain
hamlet.
