an abyss of boredom
---------------------

This afternoon, we
decided to walk from our cottage on the northeast shore of Au Train
Lake over to the resort on the west shore of Au Train Lake. It
took about 45 minutes each way to traverse the lake, thanks to
slippery ice conditions. About half way across, we passed a
colony of ice fishing shacks. Due to dismal snowmobile
conditions, Au Train Lake has seen an increase in ice fishing
activity. In addition to local fishermen, there are shacks
from Munising, Shingleton, and Rapid River.

By his very success in inventing
labor-saving devices, modern man has
manufactured an abyss of boredom that only the privileged classes in
earlier civilizations have ever fathomed.
