the
floor was a better idea
---------------------

Here was the weather forecast greeting us this morning:
ALGER-
INCLUDING THE CITY OF...MUNISING
632 AM EDT FRI MAY 24 2002
SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS OR FLURRIES EARLY OTHERWISE UNSEASONABLY
COOL.
They were right on the
money! It seems like Spring is never going to arrive.
You can tell it's Spring though, by the dramatic increase in noise
around the lake. People are opening their summer cottages,
mowing grass that doesn't need mowed with lawnmowers that maybe once
had mufflers (90+ decibels), and "sharing" the 110 decibels of noise
generated by a trio of chainsaws. The sounds of new
construction are in the air.
Ah, it's springtime
again Up North!
note: sources
on noise pollution facts provided by request.

John tried to get to his feet again,
latching on to Pensive, who was the only one in the group extending a hand.
He stood for a moment, and then decided the floor was a better idea.
"Boy's jake-legged," Hap said.
"Anybody got any painkillers?" Billy
Chuck asked. "This dog can't hunt."
Robert Mailer Anderson,
from his novel Boonville.
