a city made all of alleys
---------------------

It's been kind of cold and overcast lately.
Today, on a trip to Superior Central School near Chatham, I stopped
to take a few pictures of Slapneck Creek. You can clearly see
the snow in the photograph. The snow didn't accumulate and
really didn't amount to much, but it clearly got Nature's message
across.
Road restrictions are
still in effect in Alger County. That means large trucks and
heavy equipment are prohibited from most secondary roads, including
Forest Lake Road. This has really put a crimp on our Spring
projects.
Since Walleye Opener
is less than two weeks away, some of our projects will have to be
rescheduled for completion later this year. Still, we are
focusing on a few projects that will be completed before the Summer
season begins.

The dad writes his son that he is frightened of "the terrifyingly
complicated language you use. It crawls
everywhere, doesn't it? It is horrible to imagine
what the inside of your head is like. Terrifying.
I think of ancient cities with wandering streets up
and down hill, beneath which are layers of cities centuries old,
winding and twisting deeply, without a single straight boulevard.
It is a city made all of alleys, Son. Your
brain."
Curtis White,
author of Requiem.
