looking in people's windows and seeing they're not watching
television
---------------------

It is no longer
possible to drive and park at the Lake Superior Scenic View at
AuTrain, so I took these photographs from the M28 bridge that spans
the AuTrain River.

BC: David Shapiro says an
interesting thing in his monograph about you.
He contrasts you with the luminous Hudson River School and says you
represent the dark side of the American sensibility.
Do you go along with that?
JD: Yes, absolutely.
That's my pleasure. That's why I like
Scandinavia in the winter time. I
like it when it doesn't get light very much.
I like skiing in the dark; I like walking on a street in
Oslo, looking in people's windows and seeing they're not watching
television. I just feel comfortable
that way.
