a closer entrance
---------------------

Amy and the
girls drove to Marquette today to do some last minute shopping for
school clothes and supplies. She phoned to let me know a
cruise ship was anchored in Marquette's Lower Harbor. I piled
the boys into the old Cavalier and we field-tripped to Marquette to
see the big ship. The following information comes from the
official Web site for the Great
Lakes Cruise Company of Ann Arbor, MI.

Built in 1997, the MV Columbus was designed specifically to
accommodate the locks of the Great Lakes.
The ship contains 134 outside cabins, 63 inside cabins and 8 outside
suites (2 with verandahs).
Each cabin features a fully equipped bathroom with shower, toilet, washbasin, and hair dryer.
Amenities include a mini bar, desk and chair, a safe for valuables, and ample
closet space. All cabins have a telephone and color TV with four ship
channels - including one linked to an on-board camera displaying the
view from the bridge.
In addition, most outside cabins have sitting
areas.
The MV Columbus features a large restaurant, a lounge for dancing
and special events, a Palm Garden with bar, a galleria with group
seating areas and wine bar, library, swimming pool, pool bar, fitness
room, sauna, boutique/gift shop, hair salon, and photo lab.

I've read that
when Americans go to a shopping mall, they won't park more than six
hundred feet from where they want to go. If it's farther than
that, they'll get back in the car and drive to a closer entrance.
