lamb chops, and
suddenly the world is new
---------------------

This morning, we
installed new orange umbrellas over the bench seats at the end of
our dock. Now, guests can enjoy sitting on the dock even in
the noonday sun! You could sit under the umbrellas during the
middle of the night too, but the cooling effect of the umbrellas
would be diminished.
Our six-year-old twin
sons took the new sit-on-top kayaks for a trial run this
morning. They were able to scoot around pretty good! I
tried one of the tandem sit-on-top kayaks and can personally vouch
for their stability.

"What am I
cooking?" I ask. I should know the answer to this.
I helped bring the groceries in from the car, helped her put them
away. I have no idea what groceries they were.
"Lamb
chops," she says.
This makes me
feel better. Lamb chops, and suddenly the world is new, a
place of mystery and possibility. Lily and my mother are the
only two women on the planet who believe a lamb chop is a reasonable
and appropriate thing to cook for dinner.
