a way of life will vanish
here
---------------------

This is a photo of Dale
Frick (the letters "Da" in the name Dana's) and our guest
Doug Sterkenburg, flying a kite at the Lake Superior Au Train Scenic
Lookout.

On May 13, the last of a century's cotton will be processed into yarn
and trucked away, the teeth of the giant machines will gnash at workers
one last time, and the roar will fade to silence, forever.
Then, the Union Yarn Mill will move the machines to other plants in
other towns, 197 men and women will lose their jobs, and a way of life
will vanish here, with the closing of a gate.
