The Parting Glass
---------------------

This is a
photo of Perry Road.
During my stint
in the U. S. Navy, I was fortunate enough to forge a friendship with
an Irishman from Massachusetts named John Lynch. John was
particularly fond of playing his astonishingly large collection of
Clancy Brothers records in our barracks, at very high volume.
Today, during my
daily two mile hike, I was thinking about my Grandmother who
recently passed away. She wasn't Irish, but she would have
loved to hear the Clancy Brothers sing The Parting Glass.

The Parting Glass
Oh, all the money that e'er I spent
I spent it in good company
And all the harm that e'er I've done
Alas, it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Goodnight and joy be with you all
Oh, all the comrades that e'er I had
Are sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
Would wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call
Good night and joy be with you all
