the endlessly quacking box
---------------------
The Alger County
education monopoly has taken the day off. That means the kids
are off from school today. It rained most of last night and
has remained cloudy and overcast throughout the day.

The
Au Train area foliage is now past peak color. The
smell of wet fallen leaves is everywhere. We still
have a few stubborn trees holding on.
|
| While performing research for my
new novel, I discovered that one of my ideas has already been done!
No worries, I have a bunch of other ideas in my bag of tricks.

The
campfire pit is pretty much closed for the year. I'm
sure we'll have one or two more campfires before the onset
of winter.
|
| I was able to snap some photos of
the lake and far shore, highlighted by the setting sun. Though we're
past peak color, it still looks pretty nice!

"Once weaned from the ephemeral craving for TV, most people will find
they enjoy the time they spend reading. I'd like to suggest that
turning off that endlessly quacking box is apt to improve the quality of
your life... How much of a sacrifice are we talking about here?
How many Frasier and ER reruns does it take to make one American life complete?"
- from Stephen King, "On Writing"
