During a field trip to Munising, we dropped some Year 2001 confirmation letters off at the Munising Post Office.  This is a photo of the interior of the Post Office.  It reminds me of the Post Office described in Toddlecreek Post Office by Uri Shulevitz.  It's a great book to read to children.

On our way back to Dana's, we stopped at Subway to purchase some subs to take home.  They have a great view of Munising Bay from the dining room.

Just last week, I purchased another fantastic book for my twin sons.  It's called The Raft by Jim Lamarche.  It's about a young boy named Nicky who has no idea what he's getting into when his father drops him off for the summer at his grandmother's cottage by a river in the woods.  As Nicky notes, "There's nobody to play with ... She doesn't even have a TV."  But his very wise grandma quietly allows Nicky to discover for himself the wonders of river life.  Gradually, Nicky's interest in drawing the wildlife he sees brings him closer to his artist grandmother.  Our twins were totally captivated by this story and we have read it many times already.

"In the beginning, I was made.  I didn't ask to be made.  No one consulted with me or considered my feelings in this matter.  But if it brought some passing fancy to some lowly humans as they haphazardly pranced their way through life's mournful jungle, then so be it."
- Marvin the Paranoid Android,
from Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" radio scripts
