Two
loads of beautiful Lake Superior sand were delivered
today. We will spread it over the beach as soon as the
new dock is installed. The twins immediately conquered
the summit!

Our new Hewitt dock has been
ordered. We hope to have it on the lake next week, weather and water
level permitting. We'll post some photos just as soon as it's in!

The yurt manufacturer
contacted us today to tell us the yurt will ship on time. My
Dad is coming up from Indiana to build the deck for the yurt.
We are looking forward to moving the telecommuting office to the
yurt and giving tours of the new digs this summer!
There are many more
projects on the board, but I'll discuss them in later journal
entries.

We reached a major
milestone today. We have attained my goal of "twelve
weeks full!" The phrase "twelve weeks full" is
a phrase brought to my attention by some resorters in
Minnesota. There, the phrase represents aspirations of an
almost perfect resorter season. I like to think that reaching
this goal is a confirmation of our efforts to make Dana's Lakeside
Resort one of the best vacation destinations in the Upper
Peninsula! I want to personally thank everyone who has chosen
Dana's as their 2000 vacation destination!

Friends, we have been
told we are too competitive. There is no question that we're
competitive! In addition to being a vacation destination, this
resort is a business! Resort success is measured by the
owner's ability to attract guests to the resort and to keep them
coming back! Our goal is to provide the best vacation
experience we possibly can and to make Dana's an attractive vacation
destination.
Period.
From the beginning, I
have been as open and honest as possible. When guests call us
on the phone, read our brochure or visit our web site, they will
know EXACTLY what we have to offer! There should be no
surprises. I don't use soft focus on the photos or advertising
gimmicks to make things look or sound better than they are.
Everything about this resort is open to public scrutiny, including
this journal! We publish our rates, policies, unretouched
photos of the cabins, a map of the resort and cabin
availability! We even share our project lists! Everyone
on the planet has access!
I could be wrong, but I
think being completely booked for the summer is a strong
confirmation of a good business plan.
We are already thinking
of several exciting projects for 2001. We will listen
carefully to our guests this summer. and narrow down the project
list for next year. We look forward to hearing your
suggestions.
It's going to be a great
summer!
