Mothership Connection
--------------------
There is a gusty wind from the
north today. The lake water level is still quite high as you can see
in this picture of Dana's beach. Some of the Lake Superior sand we
dumped on the beach is washing away.

Some
of the trees are now sporting buds, but it still looks stark
and gray up here. This was actually a color
photograph, but I converted it to black and white.
Twenty years from now they'll wonder why the photo isn't in
color. The picture is a lot more dramatic in black and
white.

I actually watched an
intelligent TV show today, a documentary on the poet Allen Ginsberg.
His circle of friends included some of my favorite poets and
writers: William Carlos Williams, Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Jack
Kerouac.
I have to confess though,
that my favorite poet is e. e. cummings. When still in high
school, I spent a lot of money (for a high school student anyway) to
purchase the Complete Poems 1904-1962. I still have the
book. Even though he was from a previous generation, I was
fascinated by his fresh and innovative style. He often
attempted to arrange the words of his poems into images. I
would share one of my favorites here, but all of the rights are
owned by Liveright Publishing Corporation. They get wacky when
someone quotes e. e. cummings and they don't get any money for
it. I'm always a little annoyed by companies and people
cashing in on a dead man's work, but we have to play by the rules,
right?

My brother sent me a postcard the other day with this big
satellite photo of the entire earth on it. On the back it said: "Wish you were
here." - Steven Wright
