Luge Lament

The day started badly.  The old Chevy Cavalier only made it about 3/4ths of the way up the luge hill this morning on our daily journey to meet the school bus.  The entire driveway was glazed ice.  Very nasty!

The girls and I exited the car, but promptly fell on the ultra-slick surface.  Fortunately, no one was injured.  The good part was that we are in the middle of a national forest and there were no witnesses.

The girls somehow navigated the rest of the hill and actually made it to the bus stop on time, albeit with wet clothes.  I skated back down to the resort and spent three hours spreading beautiful Lake Superior sand on the road, from the base of the hill all of the way to the summit.

I have to admit that spreading the sand broke my heart.  It completely destroyed a world-class luge surface.

With the hill problem resolved, I was able to retrieve the Chevy Cavalier and then field-trip with the twins to Munising.  We stopped at Scott Falls to see if it was still frozen.  It is...

This is about the fourth day of high temperatures in the 40's.  It is devastating to the snowmobilers.  We passed seven vehicles towing snowmobiles on M28 as the visitors escape Alger County and the terrible snow conditions.
