Luge Lament
The day started
badly. The old Chevy Cavalier only made it about 3/4ths of the
way up the luge hill this morning on our daily journey to meet the
school bus. The entire driveway was glazed ice. Very
nasty!
The girls and I exited
the car, but promptly fell on the ultra-slick surface.
Fortunately, no one was injured. The good part was that we are
in the middle of a national forest and there were no witnesses.
The girls somehow
navigated the rest of the hill and actually made it to the bus stop
on time, albeit with wet clothes. I skated back down to the
resort and spent three hours spreading beautiful Lake Superior sand
on the road, from the base of the hill all of the way to the summit.
I have to admit that
spreading the sand broke my heart. It completely destroyed a
world-class luge surface.
With the hill problem
resolved, I was able to retrieve the Chevy Cavalier and then field-trip
with the twins to Munising. We stopped at Scott Falls to see if it
was still frozen. It is...

This is about the fourth day of high
temperatures in the 40's. It is devastating to the
snowmobilers. We passed seven vehicles towing snowmobiles on
M28 as the visitors escape Alger County and the terrible snow
conditions.
