Leftovers
We moved more stuff from the trailer
today. We also installed the shield for the mailbox. The
snow plows send snow and ice flying for quite a distance and can
easily destroy innocent unprotected mail boxes. We also installed
plastic on the porch windows of Cabin 6.
We are pretty much ready for
winter. My Dad helped get the little walk-behind snow thrower
working today. We use the Honda tractor most of the time, but
the little snow thrower will come in handy.
We enjoyed the leftovers from the perfect Thanksgiving
dinner. It tasted just as good today!
The kids spent lots of time with
Grandma and I enjoyed some time with my Dad. We had to field
trip to Kolbus Motors in Christmas to look into a problem with my
Dad's van.
I've been overwhelmed recently by
artist David Hockney's theory that master artists like the
19th-century French artist Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingres didn't
create highly detailed portraits by eye and hand alone. It is
likely, Hockney says, that Ingres also used a lens to project images
of his subjects onto a surface such as paper or canvas, where
they could be quickly and easily traced! Hockney contends that
the use of lenses explains why "there is no awkward drawing,
none," in almost 400 years of Western art until the late 19th
century. He contends that Dürer, Caravaggio, Raphael, and
Velazquez, among others, also used lenses and optical devices.
Hockney says "it would be sad if anybody thought what I am
saying [about the use of lenses] diminished anything. On the
contrary, it makes it far more interesting..."
Hokey smoke, Bullwinkle!
It was rather overcast today, but
still managed to reach the 40's. A gentle rain started to fall
at dusk. Just a few more
chores and we'll be ready to watch the snow fall...
