Inexorable Slide Into Winter
The sun came out and the daytime temperature
inched into the fifties. We started raking the leaves, millions of
them. We should complete the task sometime in the next millennium.
Nearing season's end, we are at a crossroads
with Dana's Lakeside Resort. As owners (more like stewards, really),
we are trying to make some hard decisions. There are concerns and
risks about making too many improvements to the resort. If we sink
lots of money into major new projects such as retaining walls, burying
water lines and winterizing the cabins, will we ever be able to recoup our
investment down the road?
There are also risks to changing the
personality of the resort too much. Potential resorters should
always remember that guests keep coming back because they like the way
things are.
