DanaBall!

During one of my many field-trips to Minnesota, I rediscovered one of the best-kept secrets of camps and resorts across the country.  Although the origin of the game is uncertain, DanaBall! can trace its ancestry to similar games in North American church camps and Mom-and-Pop resorts.

After consulting with my resident expert (my 12-year-old daughter) and our game architect (my father), we came up with the dimensions and construction plans for the game.  The game features all-weather construction materials, so it can be played all year in the great outdoors.  It is a game that can be played on equal footing by children and adults.

Rules

Equipment: One set of Pool balls (10 balls plus one cue ball)

bulletChoose a side and divide the Pool balls, allowing five
balls to each player.

bulletEach player has a playing field of up to an arm's length away.

bulletEach player arranges his five Pool balls in any order on the
playing field within an arm's length.
Note: They may be placed next to or behind each other.

bulletIf the players can't agree who is to begin the game, flip a coin to see who goes first.

bulletThe winner of the coin flip begins the game by aiming the cue ball and rolling the cue ball down the alley and attempting to knock his opponent's balls into his opponent's holding pit.

bulletThe other player takes his turn.

bulletAs soon as one player knocks all of his opponent's balls into the holding pit, his opponent gets ONE final chance to CONSECUTIVELY knock the remaining balls into the pending winner's holding pit.  If one shot is missed, the game is over.  If he is successful, the game is tied and it's time to start over!
